Football - International friendlies Tardelli brace sees Brazil triumph in Superclasico
International friendly, National Stadium, Beijing – Brazil 2 (Tardelli 28, 64) Argentina 0
Two maiden international goals from Diego Tardelli proved the difference as Brazil overcame bitter rivals Argentina in the 100th meeting of the two great sides in Beijing.
Tardelli struck midway through each half after Argentina had a legitimate penalty claim turned down before Jefferson saved Lionel Messi’s spot kick at the end of the first half.
Argentina dominated the opening half hour and looked to have justified grounds for a penalty rejected when Miranda sent Aguero sprawling in the box before Brazil took the lead against the run of play. Oscar's hopeful cross was headed into Tardelli's path by Fernandez and the striker rifled his volley past Jefferson.
Having been denied an earlier penalty, Argentina then appeared fortunate to be awarded a second when Danilo seemed to win the ball cleanly off Angel di Maria.
But Messi missed his third spot kick in four games for club and country and another second-half goal from Tardelli sealed the match in Brazil’s favour.
The result means that Brazil now lead the head-to-head record between the sides with 40 victories to Argentina's 36.
