I Don't Believe In Local Govt. Autonomy - LCDA Chairman - Politics - Wabsodlink

Hon. Jide Jimoh while speaking with Dapo Aruwajoye on TVC breakfast show yesterday said he does not believe in Local Government autonomy as approved by the National Assembly as part of the on-going 1999 constitution amendments. The controversial and award winning Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Chairman in Lagos cited true federalism as the way forward where states will be allowed to develop at its own pace. ”We cannot be going to Abuja everytime we needed to get our allocation. Too much power is concentrated at the Central Govt. (FG) and that must be reduced. We need to give more power to the State. I am not against autonomy for the Local Government but definitely not the type of one granted by the NASS.” – Hon. Jide Jimoh The one-time Councillor under Lagos Mainland Local Government also stated that the Local Govt. autonomy as approved by the NASS is bound to fail as he is confident of its rejection by majority of the states across the federation. The Senate at its proceedings on Tuesday approved several provisions adopted by the conference committee made up of lawmakers in both the Senate and the House of Representatives on the amendment of the 1999 constitution which include Local Govt. Autonomy and removal of Immunity Clause for elected office holders. http://thepolityreporters.wordpress.com/2014/10/24/i-dont-believe-in-local-govt-autonomy-it-is-bound-to-fail-hon-jide-jimoh/
